I had a terrible experience at Hotel Fortune in Freeport, Bahamas. The hotel is in very poor condition and definitely needs major renovations. Many of the sinks and faucets in the public bathrooms and common areas were not working, and the hotel had a strong moldy smell. The rooms were also very dated and deteriorated. Another issue was the ceiling fans throughout the property. Many of them looked very old and either did not work properly or did not provide enough air. The hotel should really invest in newer, more powerful ceilings fans because it was extremely hot throughout the property. Overall, the property did not feel well maintained, and I was very disappointed with its condition. The only positive things I can say are that the buffet food was good, with a nice variety of options, and the beach was beautiful. Importunely, the good food and the beach were not enough to make up for the poor condition of the hotel. Based on my experience, I would not stay here again or recommended this place.

7.2/10 Good! (491 reviews)
Island Seas Resort has some positives, but unfortunately the negatives outweighed them for us. The best part is the location. It’s directly on a beautiful beach, and the grounds are very nice and well maintained. We also had a great massage. The wellness area is pretty bare-bones, but the masseuse was excellent. The food at SeaGrape Restaurant was also very good. Unfortunately, the rooms are extremely dated and desperately need renovation. Our room smelled moldy/mildewy, we had repeated issues with the room key, and we found a large palmetto bug/roach inside. We live in Florida and know these bugs exist, but I’ve never stayed in a hotel where I actually found one in my room. Our smoke detector also had a low battery and chirped repeatedly all night. When we called for help, we were told no one could address it until the next day, leaving us to deal with it ourselves. Service was extremely slow, and several areas, including the bar, were unattended. We understand it was the slow season, but paying guests should still receive the amenities and services advertised. The Wi-Fi is also terrible, so bring a hotspot if you need reliable internet. This resort has a beautiful location and a lot of potential, but it feels like a property that may have been great 20 years ago and hasn’t kept up. I would rather pay more to stay elsewhere and would not return.

I should have known my experience would be bad, when it took 2.5 hours to get my food from the restaurant at the resort. The facilities were outdated and many of the appliances were rusted. The weight room was small with equipment not maintained. One treadmill had a broken screen and the other had a loose belt. Requests were treated as an inconvenience. It took hours to get towels replaced. I did not have WiFi in my room my entire stay. The first day I notified staff, I was told “all rooms have WiFi, so I must have WiFi”. I came back the next day and was told that IT was not in on the weekend and to come back on Monday. I came back on Monday and was told, they would let IT know I needed assistance. That assistance never came. Air conditioning in my room was not controllable. The temperature never changed. Our toilet would not flush properly. Overall, it was the worst experience on any trip i have ever been on. There were a few nice people, like Jones, but most others could care less.
